This interior illustration for Analog Magazine went with Stephen L. Burns' story The Coverture Incident. The creature is a sentient being called a Guymarguyimaranguyital, a simbiotic creature whose intelligent member is carried in a braincase beneath the jaw. There are also injoined versions of the creature at large.
