This miniature painting uses 23k
gold leaf and malachite to enhance the feel of a more modern piece
of art in the technique of the medieval book illuminator. The
particular species of Iris is the I. germanica, or Bearded
German Iris. This flower was used to make a beautiful green pigment
for use in illustrating medieval books. I make this color from
this exact plant.
