I am selling prints made with the
following processes:
* Off-Set Litho
*Archival Epson Prints (Dura Brite)
* ALPS MD 5000 (with metal foil)
* Epson 880 inkjet (limited supply, discontinued)
* Laser
All prints are on heavy, acid free papers.
All art prints should be kept away from moisture
and out of the sun's direct UV rays. The Off-Set Lithographs and
ALPS MD 5000 prints are high quality archival prints that cost
me more to make than the regular Laser Prints of many of the CCG
illustrations.
ALPS prints are what I make many of my Illuminated
Manuscript images of. This printer uses permanent, fade proof,
waterproof inks, and it also lays gold and silver colored foils.
Epson 880 is a high quality inkjet style printer
with very small dots for high resolution. The inks are supposed
to be much more permanent than typical inkjet prints.
Archival Epson prints are made with Epson's
Dura Brite inks, which are expected to last up to 200 years. They
are this good because they are pigment based rather than dye based.
I am trying to convert my runs to these prints where possible.

These are tools useful to the contempoary illuminator
and other artists.
Reproduction late 14th-early 15th c. French Brush Tray
for Tempera Painting
$45
This is a reproduction of the typical medieval artist's
brush tray. This one is styled after the 1402 De Claris Mulieribus
illustration from France. It holds a small amount of water, and
this keeps the brush tip wet. This is great for tempera painting,
but it is indispensable to the modern acrylic painter. Easy to
use and easy to clean, it is one of the most important tools on
my table. It allows me to keep several brushes going at once,
and never a worry about getting the hairs bent.
Handmade by Randy Asplund, signed and numbered. 5.5"
wide X 7.125" long X 2" high. Glazed Ceramic.
Brass Mortar and Pestle Set -Large
$48
This VERY solid brass mortar and pestle works like
a dream to tear through rocks like malachite, azurite, hematite,
orpiment, and lapis lazuli. It is great for crushing oak galls
and other hard organic dye materials. A brass mortar is recommended
in medieval treatises for breaking small stone bits for making
paint, but since it is brass, it is also good for the black powder
enthusiast. To keep material from flying out when you pound it,
tie (or rubber band) a 12" diameter cloth around the top
and cut a hole in the center big enough for the pestle handle.
Then tie (rubber band) the cloth onto the handle. This creates
a closed chamber and keeps dust down.
They weigh 4.35 pounds, are 5" high, 4.75" diameter,
with an 8" pestle
Lead-Tin drawing stylus.
$6.50
This tool was hand made by Randy Asplund according
to 14th century directions. It was cast in a soapstone mold, shaped,
then hammered to the right hardness. Use it like a modern pencil.
The lead in this form is not dangerous to be handled by the artist.
Just don't eat it. It draws on paper without need of preparation.
Parchment hair side may need light sanding to provide tooth. This
is the tool used to sketch illuminated designs on the parchment
before the drawings were inked. It was also used in some periods
and places to rule text lines.
