Orion and Concorde

 

These are plastic model kits that I have built. Art images © Randy Asplund.

 

 

The Concorde Airliner and the Orion Space Plane from Stanley Kubrick's film 2001- A Space Odyssey are
both modeled in 1/144 scale. Both kits are Airfix. Interestingly, the two were designed at roughly the same
time period in technology.

My advice is to paint the interior of the Orion black, or do something with the inside of the windows,
because if you don't, they will look very wrong. A lot of light gets inside.

 

This is the same 1/144 scale model and a sky photo I shot. I made the model and a print of this for my dad's
birthday around when he took one of the very last flights of the Concorde.

 

 

Dad never did get a ride on the Orion, but maybe if I live long enough, I may get a ride on something similar?
